« on: September 19, 2013, 07:53:11 PM »
The third release candidate of dCore 5.0 is released and ready for testing:

Changes for RC3:

  • Removed external deb2sce startup scripts for custom packages, now contained within.
  • Removed depreciated fromISOfile and sce-fetch.sh
  • import: Broadened phrase match for package names or partial package names for the prebuilt packages.
  • setupHome function rewrite to honor persistent home.
  • sethostname: Expanded to include localhost.host
  • 50-udev-default.rules: for rw access to /dev/rfkill - via Juanito

With debs being cached on disk is the -s option of import still used? If it is what does it exactly do?

The -s option stores the md5 of each package an sce is made of inside the sce.   That info can be used by importupdatecheck to let you know if any packages used to make the sce have been updated on our or Debian's server.  Re-importing  will use the latest files to recreate the package just as it did when debs were not stored after an import session.

There was one person concerned about being able to know when security updates were issued to packages their sces were made of.  If you were running an ssh server, I could see wanting to know when those packages have been updated in Debian.  Actually, it is planned to incorporate the effect of the -s option into the default behavior since it costs very little in performance or size difference and will reduce the potential for confusion.

Jason, thanks for the persistent perms/ownership on /home and the more intuitive phrase matching for packages.

Is there a dCore version of tc-install for USB stick?

Booted the dCore iso from CD (which worked), mounted a USB stick and created a tce directory on it, tried the imports for flwm_topside. Got a bunch of "unable to create symlink" error messages and the whole mess wouldn't reboot to the desktop (although it did create an sce directory with packages in it under the tce). And of course the USB stick itself wasn't bootable anyway.

No doubt I skipped some steps I need to get this going!

Thanks for reporting. Since I rarely use a CD, it has not been reviewed. I will shortly; and test for rc4.

After booting with my latest re-import of my mydesktop-megasce I have no X and no console, only a non-working login prompt.

Thanks roberts.

My usual procedure with "standard" TC is to burn each major release (x.0) ISO to CD, install via tc-install to USB stick, and download subsequent x.x updates of core (if any) to the stick. Was trying this approach with dCore.

Didn't think I was making a "bug" report, more of a "user error" report (mine).

Working again after another re-import.

After another re-import, dcore won't load my mydesktop mega-sce at boot. Adding the following lines to bootlocal.sh makes it work again.

sudo -u tc loadsce mydesktop
su -c startx tc

The second item in my sceboot.lst is loaded ok at boot.
