The message you get on starting cups for the first time is normal - if you try "ps aux | grep cups", you'll see that the cups daemon is running

Is /usr/local/etc/cups/cupsd.conf present?

hi

There is evidence you have downloaded cups but not the hp package
The second image shows hplip* downloading but not the result,  and  No yellow status box in APPS is visible.

maybe you could just try as a local user
Code: [Select]
tce-load -i hplip-2.7
and report if you get any errors please.
---If no errors move on to Juanito's suggestion.

2) Did you realise that you have added hplip-2.7 and cups to your onboot.lst?
Hint....that would be reasonable if you do a lot of printing but a bit of a waste if you only do infrequent printing

In either case....once you can setup your printer....its smart to have some files as per the cups info file.....added to your backup

3) Forgive me, for arrogance based on your low post count.....if you don't want something auto loading on reboot....next time you use APPS
pulldown the bottom LH button in APPS and select download only.

You can always go into APPS /Mainenance/ onboot Maintenance and move stuff from the LH pane into the RH pane = onboot
or the reverse.

good luck

It looks like something went wrong with the cups extension start-up script when it was loaded - if you still have the cups extension loaded, maybe you could look under /tmp/tcloop/cups to see if cupsd.conf is there somewhere and, if so, copy it to /usr/local/etc/cups

Otherwise you could try upgrading to tc-5.x - cups/hplip works for me using tc-5.x

I hope Juanito is wrong....altho its a wish on this occassion
but your image has no evidence that you loaded cups....this time

(2) You can only backup the files such as cupsd.conf ONCE you have confirmed your printer is working
its possible you have added files to your backup without actually checking your printer has worked
by adding non-existant files because not verified you may be prevent cups loading a clean set

I suggest you delete all cups files from your backup  /opt/.filetool.lst please and do a full reboot

I thank you for taking the time to do a screenshot, I beg on 4.7.7 if you wish to,
here is what is supposed to happen, pls confirm when you get a chance
Code: [Select]
tce-load -i cups
qpdf.tcz: OK
bsddb.tcz: OK
cracklib.tcz: OK
Linux-PAM.tcz: OK
libpaper.tcz: OK
gcc_libs.tcz: OK
libavahi.tcz: OK
libcups-filters.tcz: OK
cups-filters.tcz: OK
libcups.tcz: OK
libattr.tcz: OK
acl.tcz: OK
cups.tcz: OK
and
separate package
Code: [Select]
tce-load -i hplip-2.7
sqlite3.tcz: OK
python.tcz: OK
dbus-python-2.7.tcz: OK
net-snmp.tcz: OK
libgs.tcz: OK
ghostscript_common.tcz: OK
ghostscript.tcz: OK
hplip-2.7.tcz: OK

Next start the daemon and set a root passwd if one is not saved---extra is status command for you to report on pls
Code: [Select]
sudo /usr/local/etc/init.d/cups start
stopped /usr/local/bin/dbus-daemon (pid 5502)
tc@box:~$ /usr/local/etc/init.d/cups status
cups is running

sudo passwd  (or sudo su && passwd)

Now see if you can get a web page
Next create a root password
and so on

EDIT to correct backup filename and show more details of correct loading of cups and hplip-2.7

Which version of tinycore are you using and which versions of the cups and hplip extensions?

CGeTech
confirmed on TC 4.7.7
but copy and paste this entire link into your web browser and you should be able to print this color image
file:///tmp/tcloop/cups/usr/local/share/doc/cups/images/color-wheel.png

Juanito
Tested on 4.7.7 with hplip-2.7
same error as OP
----------------------but the printer works ok

will reboot and test image in 5 x
EDIT
test page works with usb lead to a hp 3050 printer

CGeTech
FYI
If you don't need a snazzy desktop feel free to re-test in 5x
