Mount extension over internet
« on: June 29, 2013, 10:01:59 AM »
Is it possible to mount an extension directly from the repository (or from anywhere on the internet)? Wouldn't that be cool?  8)

Not sure if sshfs could potentially handle such, of course you would have to set up a remote sftp server (nfs would not be secure enough).

It would be really slow, only usable on a LAN.

Extensions would have a slow start up but memory cache and/or disk cache could make them fast once loaded. Ondemand extensions would take no (zero) disk space when not loaded.

A description which to some degree fits sshfs as well.

Ondemand extensions would take no (zero) disk space when not loaded.

That has always been the case already when running in Default mode (Cloud).

Are you referring to netboot?

Just regular boot without persistent tce/ directory.  If you didn't download it (yet), it takes no space.

Yes, your right. But it would be nice to be able to mix persistent and non-persistent extensions. Frequently used extensions (onboot mostly) should be persistent while less frequently used extensions (ondemand mostly) could be non-persistent.

It wouldn't be that respectful towards the mirrors to do that.
