[SOLVED] mc gives an error for misc.sh
« on: February 12, 2013, 03:35:27 AM »
hi

mc (midnight commander) gives this error when I am trying to peek inside a *so file

Quote
#!/bin/sh

# $1 - action
# $2 - type of file

action=$1
filetype=$2

[ -n "${MC_XDG_OPEN}" ] || MC_XDG_OPEN="xdg-open"

do_view_action() {
    filetype=$1

    case "${filetype}" in
    iso9660)
        isoinfo -l -i "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}"
        ;;
    cat)
        /bin/cat "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" 2>/dev/null
        ;;
    ar)
        file "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" && nm -C "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}"
        ;;
    lib)
        gplib -t "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" || >&2 | \

        ;;
    so)
        file "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" && nm -C -D "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}"

        sqlite3 "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" .dump

        lyxcat "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}"
        ;;
    torrent)
        ctorrent -x "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" 2>/dev/null
        ;;
    javaclass)
        jad -p "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" 2>/dev/null
        ;;
    *)
        ;;
    esac
}

do_open_action() {
    filetype=$1

    case "${filetype}" in
    imakefile)
        xmkmf -a

            (glade-3 "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" >/dev/null 2>&1 &)

        fi
        ;;
    lyx)
        lyx "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}"
        ;;
    *)
        ;;
    esac
}

case "${action}" in
view)
    do_view_action "${filetype}"
    ;;
open)
    "${MC_XDG_OPEN}" "${MC_EXT_FILENAME}" 2>/dev/null || \
        do_open_action "${filetype}"
    ;;
*)
    ;;
esac

line 96 appears to be the esac =  last line

2) I can peek inside using strings  but my memory thinks I used to be able to use mc
can anyone get the same error using mc against files under /lib

3) Is it fixable or nothing to worry about?

cheers and thanks for reading

Just based on the warning:
Have you got file.tcz installed?

ok maybe I forgot what type of file I was peeking into in the past?

but image is expected behaviour so its solved

In mc, that file appears as a green "script" or executable and so until I peek inside it ,
or run file against it
or run strings against it
------but mc is quicker
.....................................I never know whether its a sh or bash script etc
