Anyway as you stated WICD you decided not to use as per above post.

I understand that wpa_supplicant / wireless_tools / wifi  .tcz packages need to be installed for wireless, are these unrelated to packages which relates to out-of-the-box network ethernet connection and is network manager ?

I found a bug in current wpa_supplicant and just building a new version. Hopefully it will work as expected with the CLI WiFi tool. While it is a small script, it works fine and you can manage WIFi connection just fine.

NETWORKMANAGER or WICD are heavy applications and not on the top of the priority list. Lets wait for working wpa_supplicant and wifi.sh first.

Regarding wired connection, if you are running X use ControlPanel's network setup tool.

Thank you for response, if piCore works without network-manager and wicd that is good enough as less is more, please keep it simple.

I was actually asking what software package controls the ethernet connection, I am just trying to understand the hierachy
