Rich i dont place my extended partition to end on last sector either. Thats where i place my swap, as it must spin faster on the edge than in the center as it has to cover a bigger distance

You seem to have gotten that by 180 degrees wrong.
A recommendation for swap partitions (rather obsolete with kernel > 2.4) was for them to be placed at the beginning of partition table for any potential improvement in speed (not at the end!).

You are right considering the travel time of the read arm but that depends on position, i was just thinking physics and that most TLC runs from mem. Im deffently not trying to argue against you and again modern disks are intelligent and i dont really know how they REALLY work, shifting sectors around, head placement, read ahead, trying to guess next sector to read before requested and so on.
Thanks tinypoodle to point out the mistake and underlining the correct rule of thumb for swap.
