Thanks, jls.  That has been one of my pet peeves, too.

I suppose the extension name should reflect the name of the application or system that it implements, and that's not always descriptive.  I could make an educated guess at what "gnutls.tce" might be, but then I would be assuming it to be redundant with "coreutils.tce".  The comments weren't very descriptive, so I'll have to dig a little deeper.

An example that doesn't even allow for that sort of educated-guess-from-the-extension-name is "beaver.tcel".  It turns out to be a text editor, but the info file does not contain the word "text" and "editor" only appears once, buried deep within the URL of the original download site.  If I hadn't been a DSL user, I'd have had no clue what beaver does - although the "educated guess" exercise made me chuckle.  :P


Clearly, the educated guess method has let me down here, too:
