Hi guise.

I wanna install Linux permanently on my Thin Client T5530.

I've tested Damn Small Linux live from usb stick, and its worked great. But had no luck installing it to the internal hdd.

Now, I've heard TCL only uses 12mb, with a web browser and internet support. If this is true, its fewking awesome!

1) Can I install TCL to my 64mb hdd?

2) And if yes, can I install it from a usb stick?

3) If so, how?

Appreciate any feedback :)

Also,

4) Is it possible to run music/video playback programs with this OS on my machine? Like VLC Player/Winamp?

5) Could it be possible to mount 3-4 external USB harddrives over the network, and make this Thin Client essentially a NAS?

6) Would it be possible to run wine under this OS, and wine with Net framework integrated? (I know Im asking a lot, but I was hoping I could install winxp on this machine, which it occurs I cant)

Thank in advance, any feedback is highly appreciated :)

You heard wrong, the ISO file is 12Mb and Tinycore requires a minimum of 48Mb to boot. I would
suggest you spend a little time reading the website, FAQs, and browsing the forum.

Actually, I have read the f.a.q's and some threads here and there on the forum.

Only thing I found was installing TO a USB stick, not FROM a usb stick.

Can u help me?

48mb should be fine on my 64mb hdd, no?

dd the core-plus iso image to a USB flash drive.
Boot it and it will run like the CD.

Hi Pastortom
Maybe you should start by creating a bootable USB thumb drive:
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,12235.msg65816.html#msg65816
and see how your hardware plays. Then if you feel it is running satisfactorily, you can move on to
installing to disc. You should also learn how to use some of the basic Linux commands, see:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Win32DiskImager

Use this when under windows. Seems easier to use than the many rawrites.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Hi Pastortom:

I'm just "brand new" here in this forum. I have the same situation as you and i've been searching for solutions but nothing seems to work. I have a HP t5520.

Have you found any way to install linux on it permanently? I'm trying to instal DSL but only errors is what i've got.

Thanks

Hey man :)

Yes, I did find a solution.

Check out this facebook album :) http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151291981750297.812158.677150296&type=3

The album is viewable as long as you got a facebook account.

There's a hidden 44-pin 2,5" ide port on the motherboard, under a blue DiskOnModule PCB board.

By using this, I could install win xp, and actually surf the internet, etc with wifi usb dongle, etc etc. The most I could do in multitasks was listening to internet radio, surf the web (non-flash sites) and copy 3-4 folders at the same time, before it started lagging abit. Quite good if u ask me. Also used this guide to make windows xp faster with my Thin Client:

http://www.wikihow.com/Dramatically-Speed-up-Windows-XP

Also, this site got tons of info on Compaq Thin Clients:   (link to ur model) http://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/hp/t5520/index.shtml

U see the blue pcb on the left top side of the motherboard picture ;)

GL ;)

Edit: Tried to fix the links 3 times, but doesnt seem like it want to :P Oh well

Thanks a lot Pastortom. That's what i'm planning to do now. First i have to find a laptop ide hdd cable 'cause i'm decided to make it works. All "solutions" i've been trying are nothing more than useless, since installing from usb stick to raw copiying directly with dd. I think there's some trick from HP to avoid using those thin clients for anything else but what they were design to. My desire is to use this thin client for automation. Wish me luck.

Thanks a lot again !!

P.D.
Sorry for my english
