Heyho guys,
as a matter of fact the Big O removed the DLJ, which allowed Linux distros to distribute Java binaries (JRE/JDK) directly through their distro-specific repository. This is now history
http://robilad.livejournal.com/90792.html
. The current releases will be the last ones in the repository. To obtain newer versions you will have to download Java personally or scripting is needed. Any binary submissions will be refused.
Cheers
Robert

Would be the next logical step... after OpenSolaris and Java ;-) Happy vendor lock-in everyone!

Didn't Sun have an agreement to keep mysql open for X years after purchase with a regulatory entity? I seem to recall something like that, against anti-competitive practises.

Thanks, will take a look and make a tcz of it. Seems to be a similar story than OpenOffice -> Libreoffice.

I never understood why people tried to feed that dead child for so long. It's technology wasn't revolutionary, the implementation depressing and it's use made people schizophrenic.
Thank good someone had the guts to build java a suitable coffin.
