Markus

i tried this tool and it works just fine.

However, my laptop simply does not like the pen drive here....so it doesn't
really find it properly on boot

unpluging and replugging gets it to be found....then PLOP can boot to the pendrive
tinycore version...but tinycore only reaches a command prompt.....no GUI desktop arrives
or X11....

i think it's just the pen drive that is the issue...can try the same pen on a different
machine....(it may work)

hmmmm

Vince.

This looks like it is developing into a very nice tool. Maybe it could be mentioned in a more prominent
location on the Tinycore website, such as the installation page, not just the FAQ page.

core2usb is a portable application, no WINDOWS installation. It is good to shoreten the time to get a bootable USB and for those just trying Core. However an installable version would give some benefits, like faster startup, easy to find in Windows, etc. for those using it regularly. If there is a demand, I can provide an .msi installer.

I voted no, personally when I use widows I always preferred  portable versions of any program.

I Consider windows system too inclined to messing up, so I prefer applications that do not come out of their folder

Anything which makes it easier to install tinycore is beneficial, but I don't have a strong opinion as to whether it should be installable or not.

It is probably ideal if it can be run without needing to be installed in windows - if you can get full functionality.

With more and more people using netbooks, without a dvd drive, an installer or installers which can be run without a cd or dvd is becoming more important.

There could be more than one installer, to suit people in different situations.

I think, one which can do a full installation, including home and opt directories, would be a big plus.

Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

Hi bmarkus
Frankly, I've never been a fan of the way programs get installed on Windows where every program
simply dumps a bunch of stuff in the registry and then not cleaning up if you un-install it. Over time,
the registry winds up looking like a public bathroom that never gets cleaned.
My preference is the way portable programs do it. Create a self contained directory. Add an optional
icon for the desktop for a fixed installation.

just tried 4.4rc1 and noted that core2usb doesn't copy over the cde directory.

Please provide details, what happened exactly; which files and directories are on the USB? Did installation finish or it was broken and not finalized? Did you remove USB on the proper way disconnecting it or just pulled out? In later case it may happen the WINDOWS did not write cache back to the stick.

Myself using Core2usb to create 4.4rc1 and 4.3 USB sticks with different USB sticks and works fine in all cases.
