Did anybody ever try iscsi (not much to do with scsi by the look of it) - it seems it can be used to access drives on other machines - eg the blu-ray drive on a ps3 http://linux-iscsi.org/index.php/Main_Page

I've tried it, but not on TC yet.  The results for performance are the best I've seen yet for a over-the-network drive, probably due to the low level block access.  (btw, it has to do a lot with scsi, it's "Internet scsi" after all)

For the target I used iscsitarget, and for the initiator I used open-iscsi and ms software initiator.  The environment used had gigabit NICs and switches.

I ran into problems with sharing the resources as a SAN though (ie with more than one client), but didn't look into it much since I already had something else set up and working fine already (was just testing out this tech).

Hello there. First I'd like to say good work :) and thank you for such a small distribution!

I finally found a small distribution which has 2.6.26 kernel but on my bad luck it won't recognize USB ethernet adapter: Bus 005 Device 005: ID 9710:7830 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7830 Ethernet

Looks like my usb ethernet adapter is on that list, where it's drivers aren't enabled?

Can someone please explain in steps how can I enable driver for MCS7830 ?
You see this adapter is my only way to connect to the internet. And right now I can't do anything on that computer.

Thank you in advance!

p.S. I've burn the 1.3 version of TC.

Maybe you'll find your missing driver in the "net-2.6.26.tcem" extension?

You could copy the extension from here

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/tce/net-2.6.26.tcem

and then copy it to the machine without an internet connection and then:
Code: [Select]
$ tce-load /path-to-file/net-2.6.26.tcem

Thanx for your help.

I've downloaded on USB stick, transfer it to the home folder and run tce-load /home/tc/net-2.6.26.tcem but when I start ifconfig I don't see any eth0 ...

If you're using tinycore v1.3, the appropriate module might be "modprobed" automatically for your device - does it show up in "lsmod"? If you're using v1.2 or less, you'll have to do this manually.

Once your module is loaded - you can "dmesg | tail -10" to see if there's any appropriate message - you need to do this to get things going:
Code: [Select]
$ sudo udhcpc -b -i eth0

Hm.. I've also tried as root and wait till now. I did a gain ifconfig and device is recognized. I have 1.3 version, and it's interesting that it's not autmoatically modprobed... Thank you for yor help again!
