(solved) flwm issue with Firefox?
« on: June 04, 2011, 04:13:38 AM »
By using firefox, the windows border with the "-" "X" and box on the Top side Right, disappear at any time during activities on my PC. I could not find till now when it happens. So, when it appends (I cannot reduce the size anymore and dont know how to make it reappearing again via Menu), I go into full screen modus.
With the full screen modus, I can go with the mouse pointer on the Top. Then the  "-" "X" and box on the Top side Right are there when the mouse pointer is on the Top border.
But I can choose maximum 2 times the "-" sign, then it becomes inactive. My impression is that this is coming since the last firefox update on my PC.
Questions:
a) how to make reappearing the flwm border in a window in tcl3.6? (with the "-" "X" and box signs on the Top side Right)
b) where can I load the previous Firefox version of the TCE? (I would try it and see if the situation is version dependant).

solved: I simply deleted the .mozilla files in persistent home and firefox has again the window appearance.
few time later, I updated the firefox entension.. and it dont come again.
It could have been an issue with a previous firefox version where some webside modified my settings by making a forced full screen.
By deleting the firefox settings in persistent home (and not going again to some stupids webside.. for example for financial information..) it works again.

In a possibly related instance, I accidentally hit the F11 key and put Firefox/Aurora into full screen mode and was not able to get it back to a normal window.

Closing firefox and restarting the app did not help.

I dug around in the .mozilla directory and found that by editing the file ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profiledir>/localstore.rdf I could restore firefox to normal operation.

Just close firefox, open localstore.rdf in a text editor, find the sizemode setting and change it from "fullscreen" to "normal".
Save the file and start firefox and it should be in a normal window.

This allows your other firefox settings (preferences, bookmarks etc) to remain intact.  Simply deleting localstore.rdf works, too.

All of the above on Micro Core 4.0rc1 using X-org-7.5, jwm and the minefield7 extension.  Using backup and restore rather than persistent home.

Hi Lee
I've had a few instances where a window wound up in that mode. If you hit  Ctrl-Alt-m  a couple of
times that usually restores it.

ctrl-alt-m

I had expected that to do the trick but in this case it didn't.

Hi Lee
Your right, I just tried it again with Opera. It seems that   full screen mode   strips the window frame
so that won't help here. It does help when a window thinks the screen is bigger than it really is.

from the www.linuxquestions.org forum, I received the information, the solution is there:
http://allhotkeys.com/mozilla_firefox_hotkeys.html
But I did not try it till now (I simply deleted the .mozilla data before I had to use my brain too much and memorize these hotkeys..)
