I apologize for posting this here if this is the wrong place. I figured I was a bit ahead of the game on just emailing in community-written extensions, and in any case I am interested in general comments on my procedure. I have also attached the script I used to generate the extension which might serve as documentation before official docs come out.
I have packaged wpa-supplicant following the advice of Juanito and ^thehatsrule^. Stripped binaries are installed in /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/sbin. Unfortunately, I lack hosting space, and the size of the extension is 9.2 kB more than this forum's limit. I have attached the script I wrote that creates the package, from start to finish. I made this script more to document than to automate.
I have also packaged rt2860sta.tcem (wireless module used in EeePC 901 and others) but I haven't had the time to write up a script (or the space to host the package).
This is much easier than producing .debs!
