TC for small router/firewall
« on: April 01, 2009, 11:27:04 AM »
I'm new here and I apologize if this has been covered.  I have been using Ubuntu for a few years and just ran across TC.  It looks great.

I would like to set up a pc-based router/firewall for my home network using Linux.  I already run a 'canned' program SME Server, but I would like to make my own.

Can the required modules (iptables, net-tools, etc) that are recommended in the online tutorials be loaded?  And can I make me TC router run from USB/ram?

Please point me in the right direction.  THANKS.

I have my router running TC, it just takes the iptables.tcel and firewall-2.6.26.tcem extensions.  Though the iptables extension contains a firewall script, I used the site below to create mine as I did not have time that day to manually configure the needed set of rules for my setup:

TC runs all in RAM by default.  USB mass storage devices can be set up to boot TC (see the wiki page).

Thanks for the help.   It looks like I'll be using TC.  I've got it running on my netbook, and IT'S FAST!
