Question considering RAM
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:53:33 AM »
I have one question regarding RAM usage in Tinycore 3.51. I used Tinycore before 3.x releases with a computer with 256 mb RAM only, and i could use together:

mc
sylpheed
oo2
opera + flash
bash

It was no problem to have these apps running at the same time, it was a bit slow, but usable. Now, using tc 3.51 on another computer with 512mb RAM, the same programs are feeding almost all my memory, preventing me to use oo2 which I need most.

Do I do something wrong in my setup? In my boot line, I have tce=sda2 (usb device with plenty of space on it) and embed.

Make sure you do not have copy2fs.flg in your tce directory.

Yes. With it all extensions load to ram.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

thanks guys, i shall try this. since copy2fs.flg seems to be default -- as well as a text file -- would it be possible not to make it default. I believe that in earlier versions, the user had to create it in order to get apps loaded into memory. I say this because without your help, i haven't deleted it believing that nothing could happen since the file was a 0 bite one.

It is not the default, and never has been. You can also toggle it in appsaudit, perhaps that's how it was enabled for you.
