is getTime.sh same as ntp
« on: August 31, 2009, 11:56:19 PM »
Hi,
I intend to have a ntp in my machine. But as we can see, there is a script getTime.sh which picks up the time from time-nw.nist.gov.
Is this same as ntp. or do i need to seperately install ntp in my machine
Thanks in advance

ntp is much larger in size and more involved in sampling times and location.
I am just grabbing time from a single time server.
ntp tries several time servers to give a more precise answer.
Since pc's don't have that accurate a clock, the smaller, simpler, fetch one single time sample I find more than adequate. You may however want to select a time server closer to your physical location, or use the full blown ntp package.
