100dpi bitmap fonts?
« on: August 19, 2020, 01:51:32 AM »
Hmm..  just wondering about 100dpi bitmap fonts ...

I notice that a standard install of TC includes the 75dpi bitmap fonts.  And also the misc fonts, but I'm not sure if the misc fonts are 75 or 100 dpi?

The only reason I'm wondering is that these days, the monitors I use are always nearly 96dpi or close to that.

And even Aterm has a 96dpi as a default in .Xdefaults.

Just wondering if using 100dpi bitmap fonts standard as distributed by TC might be a better idea than using 75dpi as installed by default.

Sure, I've got options to play with fonts, including xorg / ttf and all that, but for my lightweight installs, it seems like having 100dpi bitmap fonts as standard these days might squeeze out just a *tad* more sharpness with today's ~96dpi displays...

100dpi fonts are larger, and thus was the choice for TC made ;) We only include a minimal set, not all X11 fonts even for 75dpi.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Ok cool - I understand the design choice.

I don't know how much bigger a 100dpi version of the existing fontfaces would be, but I'll give you guys permission to do so. :)

Seriously, thanks for the info..
