Thanks coreplayer2!  You are correct - I don't need the atheros firmware loaded at all.

So in a Monty-Python type of recall - you only need TWO things - rfkill and wifi tcz

my dmesg shows an

Atheros AR9285 Rev:2 for the ieee80211 wireless and works with no firmware tcz needed.

So thanks for that!  I'll bet althus' presario is similar.
That's a UNIX book! - cool  -- Garth

Thanks PDP-8 and Coreplayer2
I fix my main computer and my wife is happy.
Now I will work on my old portable with TC.

When you start TC you have 13 choices if you chose #1 and you want
to go on TTY1 or consol 1 without using the terminal What is the command.
On most of ubuntu you use ctrl+alt+f1 and you are in and to go out  ( f7 )
do you have command like that on TC??

I learn That with choise #12 you are in console mode How do you go back
in graphique mode from there. If you have to shut off the computer and
start it back on do you have a command like exit before turning the switch to off ??

Is all that information is in the TC book and all the 13 choices explain for newbe ??

Thank you for your answers.

You would have to load the required graphic extensions.

It does not talk about menu choices for the CD but it does contain a lot of useful information unique to Tinycore Linux.

Tank you Rich,
F1 for on and F2 for off it is fine.

If I am right when I am in tc@box:~$ I am a super user ??

like I said I am new but ready to learn.
Tank you for your time and effort.

For some general Linux knowledge, maybe try this:
https://rlworkman.net/howtos/rute/
Skip straight to chapter 4.
For information specific to Tinycore, definitely read this:
http://tinycorelinux.net/corebook.pdf
