Wordgrinder-X11
« on: December 12, 2018, 01:49:03 AM »
There's an extra package for Wordgrinder that allows graphical formatting when running within X. Bold, Italics and Underlines are graphically displayed instead of via color-coding.

Given Abiword's glitchiness and the weight of Libreoffice, it would be nice to have such a light Word Processor working at full capacity on Tiny Core.

What's the name of this extra package and where do you get it from?

Hi daniel l.
I think what you are looking for is the  xwordgrinder  executable which is already included in  wordgrinder.tcz.  You will need
to install  libXft.tcz  first.

The extra package is called "wordgrinder-x11". It's available in the Debian repos: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/wordgrinder-x11

I tried it with libXft and nothing happened. This is how it's supposed to look:

Notice how the text, when formatted, actually displays the formatting?

Yes, but did you try it by executing  wordgrinder  or  xwordgrinder ?

Amazingly, that does work. Though it looks a little weird -- the ncurses UI is kinda wonky.

Hi daniel l.
According to Debian that's the right program:
Quote
File list of package wordgrinder-x11 in stretch of architecture i386

/usr/bin/xwordgrinder
/usr/share/doc/wordgrinder-x11/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/wordgrinder-x11/copyright
/usr/share/man/man1/xwordgrinder.1.gz

When you installed  libXft.tcz , did you use the  Apps  utility or  tce-load  so that all the dependencies would also be installed?

I usually just use tce-load. Graphical app stores are a little slow for me.
I've noticed that wordgrinder and some other terminal apps, such as GNU Screen, don't display properly on Tiny Core. Is it a dependency issue? Or something to do with the kernel?
