... like other linux can,

...I just tried - using CorePure64 9.0

When I plug an sd card in, it is automatically detected and automatically shows up in the mount tool as mmcblk0p1.

Code: [Select]
$ dmesg
...
mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address aaaa
mmcblk0: mmc0:aaaa SS04G 3.69 GiB (ro)
 mmcblk0: p1

dmesg | tail
  shows no-new-device detected for me.
I'm guessing it needs firmware like the WiFi did.

I <browsed> /dev/ but noticed nothing.
BTW what is *event-spkr ?

I have a tower and don't have any event-spkr but it looks like "speaker" related until you get a better reply.

but have you tried this sdcard inserted into an usb external card reader?

It might be good to use pci-utils/usb-utils to check exactly what sd card reader hardware you have?
