TinyCore vs Windows 98 on old hardware
bm_2000:
I know tinycore is designed to be lightweight and be less demanding for older hardware. What about it on a Pentium II 333mhz with 112mhz ram? I think tinycore isnt going to run well. What are your opinions? This is word processing and maybe webbrowsing. Windows 98 works great but is way outdated and not secure.
Misalf:
You're certainly on the right track with Tiny Core. But it still depends on the software you want to use.
With only 112MB(?) RAM, forget about modern bloated web browsers like Firefox. Maybe Fifth suits your needs ( fifth.tcz is available from the repo) but TBH, I don't know if your RAM is sufficient. Maybe Dillo is enough? (dillo.tcz) It's quite basic though.
Not sure if lightweight word processing software is currently available, but that could change if you build it or someone does it for you.
However, even though Tiny Core is a good start point for a limited system like yours, I'd try to get some more RAM.

Yes sorry meant mb. Yes ram is limited but thats the max amount i have on hand and dont wanna spend money on a system like that.iv never used fifth. Iv used qtweb and miordi but those are probaly to heavy. The only way to find out i guess is to try
hiro:
no, fifth won't work. it needs too much ram.
dillo and vim works fine on such specs. used to have it on 64MB. 112MB is enough.
i'm not sure about other text processing options, abiword might already be too bloated but you could try that.
