Hi,

how do you check how much disk space an extension (incl. it's dependencies) will require before installing it?

Using tce-load only seems to install the extension without prompting "This will require X MB of disk space. Proceed?" or anything like that.

Is there a way to check how much disk space an extension (incl. it's dependencies) will require before installing it?

Using Apps GUI:
Select an extension and click the "Size" tab.
Using tce-ab:
Select an extension - The info is shown - close by pressing "Q" - press "Z".
This will show you how big each dep is and how much needs to be downloaded in total.
Download a copy and keep it handy: Core book ;)

Hi pq5190362
If you use the GUI version of the Apps utility and switch to the  Size  tab:

Anything with a  +  to the left of it needs to be downloaded.

Cool, thanks.

Maybe it would also make sense to add a prompt to tce-load which shows the required disk space?

Ah, missed that, only noticed Rich's reply at first. Thanks.

I think this could break those apps and scripts where  tce-load  is used internally.
Also, this would introduce a delay due to fetching extra info from the server. More noticeable by people like me with a slow internet connection.
Personally I wouldn't like  tce-load -w  to ask me to proceed after I've already hit ENTER.
Maybe an additional command line option that checks size of data to download against available disks space, for those too lazy to use available options, would be less intrusive.

I told you I overlooked your post about tce-ab at first, because you and Richard pretty much posted simultaneously and I saw Richard's post first and therefore asked about enhancing tce-load, yet you still hint at being too lazy to use tce-ab...

tce-ab is fine.

However, in comparison, when installing something via apt (Ubuntu/Debian), you are being presented with the following prompt:

Code: [Select]
After this operation, 1.234 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

So, it's not too uncommon.

Sorry, no offense.
Laziness is a technique used by all of us to reduce energy consumption.
I'm probably even more lazy than you, most of the time, by not paying much attention to the size of the extensions I download. If I do want/need to know the size, I use described methods and pay extra wait time and energy for it.

....and I really don't care how big an extension is
