Run in Kiosk-Mode - Window Manager
« on: September 06, 2015, 04:01:26 AM »
Hello,

I'm new to TinyCore and tried to use it for an older PC for Kiosk mode.

I have two problems and can't find any solution:

1. The different window manager:

I have installed all Window Manager i have found for tinyCore, but I didn't found
a solution to start the window manager automatically.
Of cause, I know the desktop= Parameter for booting, but I can't found the names for
the different window-manager.
Desktop=fluxbox  is starting fluxbox ...

Which desktop=? starts:
OpenBox
IceWM
and the other ones?

And how can I start and stop the window manager without booting?

2. Chromium and Firefox Browser didn't start in fullscreen modus. My Screen Solution is 1280x1024 ... Both browsers stop
in nearly 1024x768 ... The start Parameter (command line) are correct set. I can manually resize the browsers.

THanks for help...

Best regards
John

Look in the start-up scripts, for example /usr/local/tce.installed/openbox

If you mean change the wm without booting, edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop, exit to the prompt and then "startx"

What was the problem? Is it something we need to fix?

No, I'm not sure in dealing with the installation of apps via the graphical user interface. I have not read the instructions, and do not the concept behind the terms "cloud (remote)" and "Load App Locally" ...
At least I had my window manager via "cloud (remote)" found installed (I thought at least) - Seemingly but not really.

But now the appropriate window manager is installed and Firefox starts in full-screen mode. I'm very satisfied with TinyCore.
But I should read the manual instead of try and error.

Hi!

In the Official Book there is an example about creating a Kioski - did you read it? Maybe it could be a good start.

I recommend to follow the same approach as WebConverger, that being dwm+Firefox+hidecursorx11, or similar...

Hi cold1746
Have you taken a look in the Core book:
http://tinycorelinux.net/book.html
Chapter 29 is titled  A Web kiosk  and might be worth taking a look at. Also, if you go to the search page:
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?action=search
and search for  kiosk  you will get quite a few hits.
