[FEATURE REQUEST] Add option to boot screen to boot Xorg (not Xvesa) with KMS

(1/1)

pq5190362:
Dear Core developers,

the various Core editions have a boot screen (see attachments "CorePlus_6.1rc1_boot_screen.png" and "TinyCorePure64_6.1rc1_boot_screen.png" to see what I mean).

Unfortunately though, the options available in those boot screens always boot with Xvesa and without KMS.

Could you please add an option to those boot screens which boots with Xorg (instead of Xvesa) and with proper xf86-video-ati/intel/nouveau/etc. driver and with KMS (Kernel Mode Setting)?

It would be much appreciated.

Regards

Xorg and the various drivers are not included in the ISOs on purpose, to save on size. Once you've installed TC, you can easily switch to your desired driver instead of Xvesa.

Hello,

thanks for your reply.

So, would there be any chance then you could release editions/spins/ISOs which include Xorg and the various drivers and which let you boot directly with Xorg + proper xf86-video-ati/intel/nouveau/etc. driver + KMS (Kernel Mode Setting)?

Maybe call it CorePlusXorg and CorePure64PlusXorg or something like that  ;)?

The demand seems to be there, see for example:

No, it would go against the goals of the Core project. We do not aim to produce any turn-key ISOs, and so don't include web browsers, office suites, etc etc. It is quite a slippery slope once you start.

CorePlus is an install media, and as such does not really require high resolutions or accelerated 3d.

Take a look at the 'Into The Core' book, you can remaster quite easily with your extra extensions added in.
