Core v6.0beta1
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:18:42 PM »
Team Tiny Core is pleased to announce that Tiny Core 6.0 Beta1 is available for public testing:

http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86/release_candidates/
http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86_64/release_candidates/

This is an beta level cut. If you decide to help test, then please test carefully. We don't want anyone to lose data.

Most extensions have been copied over from the 5.x repo - note that the fltk library has been updated to 1.3.3 to enable unicode. fltk-1.1 and 1.3 can be installed at the same time, and old apps using 1.1 will continue to work.

Although not in the base, wbarconf has been updated in the iso and wl-modules-KERNEL has been added, but not tested, due to lack of hardware (user cut firmware and blacklisting as per the info file will still be required)

We appreciate testing and feedback.

If you use distribution files note that you need a new vmlinuz and core.gz (or rootfs.gz + modules.gz)

Changelog for 6.0 beta1:
* kernel updated to 3.16.6
* glibc updated to 2.20
* gcc updated to 4.9.1 (patched)
* e2fsprogs base libs/apps updated to 1.42.12
* util-linux base libs/apps updated to 2.25.1

Testing on x86... working ok till now...

Will we have an "upstream" Core with the latest Kernel in the future?

I was saying something like a rolling release, following the kernel releases, as we are in the 3.17.3 right now and have a 3.18rc.

I'm not sure team tinycore has any plans for a kernel update between major tinycore releases unless it's to fix some kind of major bug - that being said, making your own private kernel update is not too difficult.

Hi guys!

First I want to say that I'm very pleased with the fix of the flwm window manager! Love it! Have made a couple of observations. Neither Firefox (21) nor Icecat works right out of the box. Watcher surprises me with the information that I'm using over 400 % of the memory. Didn't know that I had that much. ;-) So there is a little to do but I'm very pleased to see that the improvements of TC continue.

Have fun improving TC,

Gave watcher a much-needed update. Watcher 1.9 now available in the x86 repo.

Firefox 21.0 and icecat works fine here. What error message you get starting them in terminal?

Here are the results of running ff in a terminal (wich I tried before too).

tc@box:~$ firefox
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /tmp/tcloop/firefox/usr/local/firefox/libxpcom.so:
libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
tc@box:~$

So it seems that something is missing. I guess it was the same with Icecat.
Kind greetings and thanks for all your fine work bm!,

That missing library is part of the firefox.tcz.  Either you have a bad copy or there is something fundamentally wrong with your installation.
Run Apps. Do Md5 Checking and check for updates.

There's some other component missing here...   Installed firefox-official and had same issue.  Have just updated firefox-official to v33.1.1  and will advise, though it's looking like a missing dep..

I think we need a new thread for tc-6.x extensions?

Update: two dep files missing..  see new post

Also noticed fltk has been updated to v1.3  in tinycore.iso  so apps like fluff in tc-6 repo which have been built on fltk-1.1.10.tcz for libfltk_images.so.1.1  would not start until fltk-1.1.10.tcz  added (or possibly apps recompiled).
