Hexedit lost

(1/2) > >>

Yleisajattelija:
Which package is hexedit etc. hex editor?

gerald_clark:
hexedit is in 4.x, but not 5.x.
Try the one from 4.7 and if it works post a notice in
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,15906.0.html

Yleisajattelija:
Hexedit is very simple application for distro-update, so obviously hexedit has no current maintainer. Serious coding is not possible without hexeditor, so it that have to be in TC developer toolbox. Of cource one can load tarball and go, but then you need no distro and no TC.

There was big theoretical TC discussion for SCM -style self-consistent packages vs. "normal" library -based distribution. I noticed that SCM:s are disappeared, and obviously replaced with debian package combatibility dCore.

If hexedit maintainer is missing, I can try to update it to 5.x but I'm very overloaded, I'm not familiar with TC-packaging and I'm very slow coder, so it will take LOT of time.

Anyway, that effort is useless without TC library documentation, where I can find it?.

Juanito:
As per the info file for the extension in the 4.x repo, the maintainer is batnas - I'd suggest you send batnas a pm to request an update for the 5.x repo.

You can also download the extension from the 4.x repo using the link below:

http://tinycorelinux.net/4.x/x86/tcz/hexedit.tcz

..and test it in tc-5.x to see if it works - note that it depends on the ncurses extension. If the extension does work, it can be copied into the 5.x repo.

To see how to make extensions, take a look at the wiki:

Juanito:
I didn't see anything mentioned?

Anyway - hexedit appears to work in tc-5.x, so copied over to the tc-5.x repo.
