"tor" extension (how?)
« on: May 21, 2014, 05:06:20 AM »
Hello

Recently  my browsing interest took me to TOR and similar things like Privoxy.

After installing the tcl extension called "tor" inside tcl it appears in the services
control panel as "tor".  I ativated it in services and then tried web browsing.

The TOR web page for testing says "sorry you are not using tor" and details my specs
and what have you.

Please can you tell me how to use a web browser through Tor. A typical all compliant browser.

thanks

V

Did you edit the torrc file as instructed in the info file?

uh not sure Gerald.

I am on tcl 4.3.1

The appbrowser instance of TOR.tcz does not make mention of any info file. Just tells
you to start tor up.

After tor.tcz extension was installed, there are no menu options for TOR on the tcl desktop

not sure what "info file" you mean or what "torrc" file?

you mean "tor-doc.tcz" in the appbrowser? (do i need to install that?)

i installed that and TOR is now working on a regular web browsing session. thanks

I am unsure why tor.tcz did not tell you to further install tor-doc.tcz or make it dependancy.

V

thanks

Hi cast-fish
There is a sample file included in the extension  usr/local/etc/tor/torrc.sample
Copy that to  usr/local/etc/tor/torrc  and look inside it for clues on what you might need to modify.

hello Rich

it is all working now after istalling Tor-doc.tcz. This did not appear to install
itself or as a dependancy of Tor.tcz. The tor.tcz info did not mention to install it either.

The Apps info panel ( the info file ) does tell you to edit the torrc file.
Docs are optional.

Agreed, and generally should probably not have any/many dependencies. I think the dependency file for tor-doc.tcz is hosed, it lists:
Code: [Select]
  groff.tcz                                   2854912,   2.72 MB
  less.tcz                                      65536,   0.06 MB
+ libevent.tcz                                 225280,   0.21 MB
  man.tcz                                       53248,   0.05 MB
  ncurses-common.tcz                            12288,   0.01 MB
  ncurses.tcz                                  151552,   0.14 MB
  openssl-1.0.0.tcz                           1486848,   1.42 MB
  pcre.tcz                                     163840,   0.16 MB
  readline.tcz                                 122880,   0.12 MB
+ tor-doc.tcz                                   90112,   0.09 MB
+ tor.tcz                                     1912832,   1.82 MB
Probably one or more of these is missing from the  tor.tcz  dependency file.

What are you talking about?
Tor-doc.tcz.dep contains only
tor.tcz
man.tcz

and you could argue that tor.tcz should not be a dependency.

All the others you list are dependencies of tor and man.
How is this a hosed tor-doc.tcz.dep?

Hi gerald_clark
You are correct, I did not look at the .dep file, I used the size tab in AppBrowser.
