Corepure64 v5.1
« on: January 02, 2014, 05:47:20 PM »
Hi,

I boot corepure64 with syslinux.cfg:
Code: [Select]
label tiny5 core v5.1 64
menu label tiny5 v5.1 64
kernel /tcv5.1-64/vmlinuz64
APPEND initrd=/tcv5.1-64/rootfs64.gz,/tcv5.1-64/modules64.gz text loglevel=3 noswap lst=ontcv5.1-64pure64.lst tce=sda1/tcv5.1-64/tce opt=sda1/tcv5.1-64/tce/opt home=sda1/tcv5.1-64/tce/home

opt and home aren't supported, it says wrong device.

Aside that, it loads successfully textmode.

I have the archive files

corepure64.gz 09d781ee033c614e2372f288b40f026e
modules64.gz 8a3e36c0a3a897264f83d6dd777f4d36
rootfs64.gz 2c3b514a69b7c08b3c71bde2d44f6ee1
vmlinuz64 8ecf26c7eca9fb707cbae57b372c4676

I have used tce-ab to install Xorg v7.7 and I think it was Xlibs to get startx.

startx (is vesa without Intel graphic support, right?) starts blue desktop tc background, I get a mouse X cursor and system freezes.

I installed Intel graphics support (worked immediately at text console), startx freezes also.

I tried to get a log by

Code: [Select]
sh .xsession | tee /mnt/sda1/tcv5.1-64/tce/X.log
This touches the X.log file, but it is empty.

I leave the frozen system by magic sys request  s-u-b, which should emergency sync, umount all, boot. At least it boots.

I have no idea what to do to get more information or how to fix X...

opt= and home= can only specify the partition.  You cannot specify a directory.  The directories are opt and home.

Since you mention corepure64.gz, I wonder if you have a mixture of extensions from corepure64-4.x and 5.x in your tce folder.

There were significant changes in the x extensions - Xlibs, Xorg-7.7, Xprogs, etc between 4.x and 5.x and I would recommend that you delete or rename your tce folder and download and load the x extensions again under corepure64 5.x

I moved corepure64.gz to corepure64.gz.old.
I verified that I have files from the release candidate, modules64.gz, rootfs64.gz and vmlinuz64
I removed the tce directory.

Booted up, used tce-ab to install everything I think I need to use X.
X starts, mouse doesn't work.

I fired up a sshd server at tc5.1-64 and this way I could verify, it doesn't freeze, it just doesn't use the mouse.
I use a Logitech Wheelmouse (usb) via ps/2 adaptor (to save usb slots).

My host system says, it uses evdev as input driver for 'ImExPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse'
I'll try to find that at tc because tc's Xorg.0.log doesn't show up evdev entries.

If the xf86-input-evdev driver is loaded, your mouse should work.

Does your keyboard work?

I expected that, too, unfortunately it doesn't.

I installed xf86-input-evdev, I even rebooted, still no change.
Mouse doesn't move.

Xorg-server refuses to load keyboard, mouse and evdev modules which I do have installed:
xf86-input-evdev.tcz,  xf86-input-keyboard.tcz  and xf86-input-mouse.tcz

If of interest, I also have a dmesg output available.

How did you download the extensions?

Xorg-7.7.tcz.dep has Xorg-fonts, xf86-video-vesa and xf86-video-fbdev, but as per your Xorg log, these are not loaded.

xf86-video-intel.tcz.dep has graphics-KERNEL and glamor-egl, but these do not appear to be loaded either.

Note that if you want Xorg to use xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard rather than xf86-input-evdev, you need to create an /etc/X11/xorg.conf with this in it:
Code: [Select]
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "false"
EndSection

..however, I think a lack of fonts is the problem at the moment

I use tce-ab to (s)earch or look which (p)rovides keywords to find packages. If found, I (i)nstall it, this also cares for dependencies.
What about dependencies of dependencies? I think I looked for  xorg-3d as initial point to get xorg-server installed.

I have a lot at optional/,  libXfont.tcz* is there, too.

My ontcv5.1-64pure64.lst looks like this:
Code: [Select]
xorg-server.tcz
wbar.tcz
Xlibs.tcz
Xprogs.tcz
graphics-3.8.13-tinycore64.tcz
flwm.tcz
xf86-video-intel.tcz
xf86-input-keyboard.tcz
xkeyboard-config.tcz
xf86-input-mouse.tcz
Xorg-7.7-bin.tcz
libxkbfile.tcz
openssh.tcz
xf86-input-evdev.tcz

I don't know why Xorg-fonts aren't loaded but, xf86-video-vesa and xf86-video-fbdev are not yet installed.

BTW: I don't want xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard, I just intalled those to see, if it runs X with these.

Meanwhile I gave it try with this xorg.conf:
Code: [Select]
Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "german keyboard"
        Driver "evdev"
        MatchIsKeyboard "on"
        Option "xkbmodel" "evdev"
        Option "xkblayout" "de"
        Option "xkbvariant" "deadgraveacute"
        Option "xkbrules" "base"
        Option "xkboptions" "compose:menu,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "mouse"
        Driver "evdev"
        Option "Device"   "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "CorePointer"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
        Option "DontZap" "false"
EndSection
...no luck neither, mouse doesn't move. - BTW: How should I test keybord without open windows?

look at "grep mouse /var/log/Xorg.0.log":
Code: [Select]
[   225.990] (==) |-->Input Device "mouse"
[   226.089] (==) intel(0): Silken mouse enabled
[   226.282] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'mouse'

[   226.282] (EE) mouse: Couldn't open mtdev device
[   226.320] (EE) PreInit returned 2 for "mouse"
[   226.508] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'mouse'

[   226.508] (**) evdev: mouse: Device: "/dev/input/mice"

[   226.508] (EE) mouse: Couldn't open mtdev device
[   226.563] (EE) PreInit returned 2 for "mouse"

I'll give it another shot with installing xf86-video-vesa and xf86-video-fbdev...

..they should be downloaded and loaded automatically.

OK, but is Xorg-fonts loaded? Try "tce-load -i Xorg-fonts" to check

Meanwhile I gave it try with this xorg.conf:
For trouble-shooting purposes it would be better to delete xorg.conf and try "confless"

If you have intel hardware and xf86-video-intel is loaded, these are not required - however if you used tce-load to download and load Xorg-7.7-3d then these should have been downloaded and loaded automatically.

Xorg-fonts was not installed.
Installing it helped xorg-server finding fonts.
modules vesa and fbdev the same.

No luck with mouse, still I don't know how to check keyboard at X if mouse doesn't work
FYI: TCE runs at the host I am using right now (gentoo linux) and it starts from booting the host and choosing to boot from cfcard.

The more I try the less I a look forward.
I'll erase everything from tce and give it a fresh start, like http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/4.x/armv6/README.txt says, I start at Step 5

Why are you reading ARM instructions when you are running X86_64?

Only four or five days ago I updated the family server from tc-4.7.7 (core64) to corepure64 5.1

I started with an empty tce folder, downloaded extensions using "tce-load -w Xorg-7.7-3d", etc, installed them with "tce-load -i "Xorg-7.7-3d", etc and everything worked as expected...

I don't. I just use the recipe for installing X from Step 5 downwards.

Juanito, I did as the recipe told me, except that I used Xorg version 7.7.

Everything worked fine as before.
After reboot, typing startx leads to the same situation at my computer. It starts X, the desktop looks fine, the mouse does not move. Keyboard lights are off and do not react even if I press Nunlock.

FYI: If I do "sudo cat /dev/input/mice" and move my mouse at the console, I get garbage as expected for a working device. The mouse has no ball but a led and it is shining dark and brights up when moving...

Here I have the new Xorg.0.log part-one from the situation after using the recipe, booting, startx:
