I'm new to TC but, really like it so far.  My issue is VLC player.  I can't find it in the repositories or any video player.

you could try totem - as of yet, nobody has reported that vlc from the tc-4.x repo works in tc-5.x

Vlc is not available.
Checking with Apps, I see totem and xine-ui.
