different memory consumption / how to measure?
(1/1)
meka:
hi, I was wondering about a display of memory usage and the correlation to VSZ/%VSZ in top. I know what virtual memory is, but the reading from tinycore top doesn't seem to correlate with other platforms.
I've build a small server process running windows, linux and in particular TinyCore (4.7.6). The program has been build on tinycore and if I start the program and look at the output from top the column of VSZ and %VSZ state approx. 134m and 52%. This is by far the biggest program on tinycore with regards to virtual memory size running on my machine. But why does the program use that much virtual memory? On Windows and (for example Ubuntu 11.04) the programm acquires 4-6Megabyte.
What more options do I have to measure this? Any ideas where that big difference is coming from?
Thank you

Hi meka
These two links should provide some useful information:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4802481/how-to-see-top-processes-by-actual-memory-usage
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/131303/linux-how-to-measure-actual-memory-usage-of-an-application-or-process
The second link mentions pmap which is available in procps.tcz.
