[SOLVED] tinycore 3.2 won't boot without attached monitor
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:26:18 PM »
I'm using tinycore 3.2 with aaeon gene 5312 motherboard before (AMD Geode™ GX 466/533 Series Processors + CS5535 GPU chipset).
I switched to aaeon gene 5315b motherboard (Onboard AMD Geode™ LX800 Processor, AMD LX + CS5536 chipset).

Model 5312 boots normally without attached monitor while 5315b doesn't.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? I tried several 5315b motherboards and result is the same.

[EDIT]: Added [SOLVED] to subject line.  Rich

First switch to TC 4.7.7 version, than if problem still exists post dmesg output.

It is not a TC limitation but a BIOS one.

I know BIOS which doesn't start without keyboard but never heard such with display. But of course it is possible.

Thank you for all the replies.

First switch to TC 4.7.7 version, than if problem still exists post dmesg output.

I have many machines that use TC 3.2 and I have to find solution to replace motherboards in machines (kiosk mode) without changing any SW (in case of motherboard failure).
Gene 5312 is obsolete and 5315b should be the replacement that shouldn't cause any problems.
But for the test it is good idea to use latest TC.

It is not a TC limitation but a BIOS one.

I hope it is just some bios setting. Ubuntu and windows OS boot normally. Do you have any idea what setting?
I'll check bios version tomorrow.

Thank you all

Sorry for long response everybody. Problem is solved.  :)

I tried few different ideas what to do:
-different BIOS settings (didn't work, also haven't receive any answer from Phoenix techologies)
-Replacing only kernel with latest one (didn't work)
-installing latest TC 4.7.7 (didn't work, even in text mode only)
-changing grub settings (didn't work, tried tons of different setting)
-replace grub with grub2 - SUCCESS

Oh, it didn't even make it to TC in the first place.
