[SOLVED] Newer Atheros Wireless Adapter
« on: May 10, 2013, 03:46:21 PM »
Hi all,

This is my first time trying to get wireless working on TC so I am probably just missing something obvious.

I have a ZOTAC ZBOX-ID41-PLUS-U D525 R that the wireless works fine on Ubuntu 12.10.

lspci -vv on Ubuntu shows the following:
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Device 0037 (rev 01)
   Subsystem: AzureWave Device 1195
   ...snip...
   Kernel driver in use: ath9k
   Kernel modules: ath9k

I have tried all the methods on the TC setting_up_wifi wiki page but still can't get the adapter to even show up for iwconfig on TC 4.7.3.

Is the card just too new, so the ath9k module that is included doesn't support it yet?

If so, can I update it manually like is mentioned in this thread?: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2035902&page=3

Questions? Comments? Snide remarks?

Thanks!

Have you tried with CorePlus?

Have you tried with CorePlus?

Good thought.  I just tried it with CorePlus 4.7.3 but no luck.  The Wifi app just says "No wifi devices found!" and iwconfig gives me the same as TC 4.7.3:
Code: [Select]
lo        no wireless extensions.
dummy0    no wireless extensions.
eth0      no wireless extensions.

I tried loading firmware-atheros.tcz as well, with the same results.

I'll try with the latest CorePlus version once it is done downloading.

UPDATE: Tried with latest CorePlus with similar results.

The only difference is that the Wifi app doesn't say "No wifi devices found!", it just shows a blank terminal window for a few seconds which then disappears.

I also tried installing wpa_gui.tcz but it does the same thing as TC 4.7.3 - i.e. when I try to start the wpa_gui service in the Control Panel the indicator' goes green for a couple seconds, then goes off and in the wpa_gui interface no adapter is listed.

Any other ideas?

Support was added in kernel 3.6, so too new for TC 4.

Ah, I wondered if that was the issue.  Thanks for confirming, curaga.

For now I'm just going to use one of the USB adapters that is listed in the forums as working with TC. (Probably Netgear G54/N150 Wireless USB Micro Adapter)
