Hello

Hello  there,

Recently been sufferring a lot of issues with my laptop and win32.

It appears to me to be gremlins and mallware but also pretty malivious root kit(s)
and it's renderring the OS pretty unusable.  Executables are not effectively working
and i think the lappy has (i KNOW)  an attack of malicious gremlins.

Thankfully , ofcourse, tiny core has come to the rescue and it's just amazing
what a coincidence that was.  TCL seems to be working fine here and
i just wondered

How do i know if i have a swap partition and if it's active?.  I am running TCL from a CD boot
and i can see the hard drive light is flickering.

Really having had it pretty bad with the laptops and computers and win32 recently

I go to  a chat site called Paltalk which is renowned for dumping oceans of gremlins
onto your computer.  It seems this has been the case here.  If you log into the paltalk
without a PAID subscription....it just is close-curtains for your machine.
These are not  guesses.  It's a fact.

so thanks .  ANy news on the command to check my swap drive will be appreciated

There is always the android machine here.  (win32 has been "pants" here with gremlins
gallore)

Hi cast-fish
If you have a swap partition Tinycore will find and use it. To see if you have a swap partition:
Code: [Select]
tc@box:~/.config/appsearch$ fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581808 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x9a24c975

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1   *        2048   204920831   102459392   83  Linux
/dev/sda2       310484992   312580095     1047552   82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda3       204920832   225400831    10240000   83  Linux
/dev/sda4       225400832   310484991    42542080    5  Extended
/dev/sda5       225402880   245823487    10210304   83  Linux
/dev/sda6       245825536   266258431    10216448   83  Linux

Moving to Off Topic for the following reasons:

1. The OP barely contains a question and mainly laments about how his computer gets infected when he visits a website
he himself lists as being questionable.
2. The subject is listed as  "Hello"

Oh yes  Rich... sorry

Off topic is fine.

The subject should have been  "virtual memory".

Anyhow

tried that code line in your post but it did not work.

your line  "tc@box:~/.config/appsearch$ fdisk -l"

my style of prompt on this laptop  is   "tc@box$"

so your code does *not* work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway nevermind.  Clearly there must be a swap partition or the hard drive would not be flickering.

It's a kind of usable  laptop with "Qtweb" browser in the TCL apps library.  Thankfully some kind
person created Qtweb (from this forum).

it is rather a lament yes. (earlier post)  which i appologize for.  i am just loathed to have to sort
out flattening this laptop again using "killdisk" tool.  See Rich, some gremlins don't go away with just a simple format.

Some would say it's my own fault....but i have kind-of been more responsible with my computing
and it  seems just real bad luck.  (never mind)

I am always grateful for any help that comes from this TCL forum.  It keeps my computing spirits
alive.

i am real grateful for TCL and your comments Rich.    TCL is now also on the my desktop here
and working just great.   It's been a bit of a rocky road laterly with computing issues here
so.

What i am telling everybody now is just buy your $49 dollar android 4.1 ICS tablet with HDMI out.
That is your full computing experience,  (laptop and desktop) (they come with little leather case/  keyboard for $7 extra)

It's great as a desktop home machine (using USB keyboard and mouse over HDMI)  It's the best computer and best computing experience you will ever buy.   (People are hopefully ditching the $2500 idea of MACS and so forth and following my advice.  (Rich)

AS far as i know all android APPS work over HDMI to a large screen ( not just apps that are coded for HDMI travel  (like youtube)...but ALL android apps)

Thanks

Vince.

Hi cast-fish
Just enter:
Code: [Select]
fdisk -land see if any of the disks list 82 under the ID column.

ok RIch...

thanks for replying.  SO soon

Its a mystery to me what the dang is going on here Rich......now, having just powered COLD down
the laptop. Switched over my appartment power to economy.

Powered back up the appartment and lights......the laptop.  EVerything is working perfectly again. ?

There are no  "hijacked" browsers...or stuck "busy"  hangs on apps and tools.

All the web sites are functioning again
correct.  Other applications are functions correct.  Those applications are low down  win32 apps
at "sector levels" on the hardware. ("Volumes"...and things)

It is a mystery Rich. A mystery.    It's certainly taken up the entire  time here....dealing with it

i notice that everything becomes FINE as we roll past midnight into the new day?.  Could
this be something to do with vacation time here?,  shifted the city over to maybe legacy
servers or something?.....  (it's impossible to say.....but the malfunctioning has completey stopped for now)

anyhow  TCL has been doing just fine.  (no malfunctioning there....what-so-ever...to be honest)

This is the thing about TCL for me.  I know that this operating
system only resides in RAM here.  That's how it rolls,

For that reason  Rich, i will always want TCL
close to hand....... because of the "virgin state of each boot  "primary state"

i feel like a fool as the technology won me over.  You know, a million people would
be pulling their hair out that they wasted their Bank holiday (vacation) messing about
with a finniky little laptop......but needs must !

So yes.

Have just checked

it's the ICOO  tablets brand  that certainly carry **all** android apps over HDMI to large screen.  (but you godda check )

They are ICS 4.1 droid and 49 sterling  with $7 for the USB keyboard. They also take USB mouse at the same time. (OTG cable with break out hub).   great  (comes with google play market place)

http://dx.com/p/icoo-d70gt-7-capacitive-android-4-0-tablet-w-hdmi-wifi-external-3g-camera-g-sensor-black-136754

You'd have to check.

somebody also showed me this

free web tv

thanks

Vince.

Hello  Rich

Completed doing a "HyperOS"  rebuild of the OS.   This is apparently fine.

It's probably a combination of things here that have contributed to the
situation described earlier.

Hope that it will surfice for now.  Seriuosly, a new laptop would be fine
if they had something like the Samsung Chrome books at those prices
but sporting the full breadth of OS's   (Msoft/android/....full compatability.

Still, wish it was an realistic option (which it is in the USA  $$$ prices).

Like i described before about the chicken and  egg thing.  I don' want

to be "that" hoodwinked  consumer. For my money i want quality low
price,  no moving parts, state of the art, technology.

Just for the record, let me tell you also....my expectations are seriuosly
the absolute "complete bare Minimum" of what global consumers should expect
from technology.  We should'nt be needing  "asking" for this stuff to be here, it should have
Been here   15   years ago........!!!  This is absolutely NO exzagerration what-so-ever.

best regards

Vince
