vlc.scm not detecting alsa device

vlc.scm doesn't detect my alsa device. I get:

Please update alsa-lib to version 1.0.23-2-g8d80d5f or higher to try to fix this issue.

vlc.tcz works fine. I've got intel sound.

I've now got sound in vlc but I still get the error.
