Iconizing of running apps on desktop

(1/2) > >>

shail.dw:
Is there a way to iconize/iconify a running app on desktop, instead of getting it listed in the right click menu, and its disappearance upon closure of the application. Many distros do that. Tinycore version 4.3)

Also if one iconifies it on the desktop, perhaps no need of its entry in right click menu.

Thanx.

Depends on the desktop manager, if you are referring to flwm (the tinycore default desktop), you have to see if this feature is supported, this is not so much a matter of distros

solorin:
a quick glance at the flwm website tells you that minimize to menu was chosen as a feature over minimize to 'desktop'

you might try rox-filer. I don't know if tinycore supports the full rox desktop. Do any TC users use this for their desktop?

the other way to approximate what you want is to grab a panel or task bar. bmpanel and tint2 are popular ones and they are in the repository.

idesk gives you icons in the deskop. they might only launch and not minimize.

http://backstep.sourceforge.net/index.html
will do exactly what you want, you'll need an EMWH compliant window manager.
(for those who build WM extensions for the repository- maybe we should tag those?)
and you'll need to package it or ask someone else very very nicely.

tinycore gives you a little ball of digital clay - you can sculpt it pretty much however you want.
if you want everything to work the way you want out of the box tho, you might want to pick something that comes in a bigger box.

cheerio.

I like this  :)

Very nicely put. Maybe this should be added to the Tinycore website, possibly the intro page.
