CorePlus-4.2 Boot Media Not Removable
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:35:05 PM »
Tiny Core webpage argument about security benefits of being able to remove boot media after booting and running from ram are persuasive.
After upgrading from 4.0.2 to 4.2, and remastering, boot screen tells me boot media cannot be removed.

Do I need to stick with 4.0.2 to run from ram, or is 4.2 in ram, just  not removable?

TC very impressive.
(Am I the only one that has a very hard time passing the verification tests?)

Tested now, I can unmount my SD (and then unplug it) as always.
I use flag "copy2fs.flg" in tce directory to load every package in ram.

Hi newtotinycore
Are you using the  cde  boot code? If you are, try booting without it and see if you can remove it then.

CorePlus is not to be confused as the distribution.
It use is primarily to facilitate installations for those uses who do not have easy access to a network,
That being wireless only or network requiring firmware. As such it contains many extensions which are mount loaded, therefore not able to un-mount the CD,  This is not new, the prior offering MultiCore one could not un-mount the boot media.

You may choose to boot without the included extensions, scroll through the boot menu. But then why would you choose CorePlus?

With  TinyCore.iso  one can umount the boot media as before.

It depends on your remastering method, with 4.0.2 you could also remaster in such a way that the cd can't be removed.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Thanks for all the info, guys.
Glad it's still possible to run TC from ram.
