hi roberts,

great piece of work, the usb-devices got the right permission, so jpilot and xsane work flawless.
your actkbd-config is stable and the "0" disappeared...
the cups-printing matured, too.
your distribution is stable, useful for heavy leisure time and easy working :)
my internal wishlist is getting shorter and shorter...
by the way, a flexible, stable s2ram would be really great, and would save energy,
you know, let's care for our energy resources and our environment :)

again, thank you for your great work and let's thank all the good friends that transfered the repository to 4.x.

the cups-printing matured, too.

Hmm - some users are still having problems with foomatic-rip  ;)

hi netnomad:
could you please be a bit more specific about the "cups printing matured" thing?
Is foomatic-rip working on your systems?
I have ownership problems with foomatic-rip depended PPD files and some other strange error messages.
See my thread on the samsung scx-4521F printer - which is a good exaple
Thank you
t(w)o be(ers) or not t(w)o be(ers) that is the question

Note that several of the cups/cups related extensions have been updated, it would be good to check you have the latest versions.

many things changed to improve the cups printing:
base 4.0.2
usb-persmissions in the base
permissions of foomatic-rip and pstoraster
update of cups.tcz and the dependencies...
and so on.
in the moment i heavily use a gutenprint.ppd, i'm not sure whether the foomatic-environment is needed.
all kind of printing works with this gutenprint.ppd flawless
i cannot test or use my foomatic.ppd, but the cups-server reports no errors for this printer...

thank you guys for this.
hi netnomad: what printer brand are you using?
HP or Epson or? Are they supported in the gutenprint.tcz?
Do you need ghostscript and ghostscript common extensions too?

t(w)o be(ers) or not t(w)o be(ers) that is the question

i use for my kyocera fs-1010 a gutenprint-ppd and for my hp deskjet 6540 a foomatic/hpijs-ppd.
in the moment i load in my own cups_meta.tcz following dependencies:
foomatic-rip.tcz
ghostscript_common.tcz
ghostscript.tcz
gutenprint.tcz
cups.tcz
i'm not sure whether i need ghostscript, but i noticed that gs.tcz isn't compativel to my setup.

Hi Y'all!

Have been testing out the new TC 4.0.2 for a couple of days and it seems rock solid. I'm glad that there are changes to make this a bugfree solid foundation for coming releases. I feel that I can depend on TC while I test different distros on my netbook (I'm kind of a distro junkie). I have TC installed on a 32 GB SD card that I always can rely on if I mess up my hard drive installations. Thanks to Robert and the whole TC team for the effort they have put down to give us this wonderful distro!

Have fun with this rock solid distro,
meo

Thanks for the usb fix in particular =D

Aside: it never ceases to amaze me how quickly/easily I can upgrade TC. Clearly, that's a good thing.

Thank you all for the great releases.

I am fairly new to TinyCore so please forgive me if this is not the right place for my questions.

I am running 4.0.2 now with a few issues.

The most strange one is that I cannot use "protect" or"secure" in boot loader.  If I do, then wifi would not work (no wifi device found).  If I boot without either of these, then it works just fine.

TIA

Need more specifics.  What specifically are you booting from, e.g., multicore_4.0.2 cd?
What specifically did you type at the boot prompt?

Thanks, Robert.

I am booting off of a USB drive (created using the multicore iso) that has a frugal install of 4.0.2.

I simply added either "protect" or "secure" to the bootloader in "syslinux.cfg" such as

label plus
   kernel /boot/vmlinuz
   append initrd=/boot/tinycore.gz quiet waitusb=5 protect

The prompts for me to create passwords all went well but then wifi was gone.

Same here  :)  I just rename my old vmlinuz and tinycore.gz to eg. vmlinuz40 and tinycore40.gz then copy new vmlinuz and tinycore.gz to my boot directory that's it! there is no need to change my grub.cfg.

I'm not sure if this is correct but i remember i read it somewhere here in the forum. any comments regarding
this process?

Thanks to all Tiny Core Team for this great distro!

Hi ru60hz
That's a good way to go when trying out a new release since it provides a simple way to revert
back to the previous version if you are not happy with the results.
