TC 4.0 no mouse and no keyboard on EPIA Board
« on: September 28, 2011, 05:09:20 AM »
Hi,

I installed TC 3.8 on a Wyse941GXL with Epia Mini-Board and all works nice. Now I installed TC 4.0 (multicore cd) and have no function on mouse and keyboard (both ps2).

Does someone have an idea where's the problem?

thx, antonio

Hi,

has no one a solution for this (mouse & keyboard) problem with tc4.0? X-server ist there, mouse-pointer is the middle of screen, but thats it. No move, no keyboard reaction....  :(

You may have a look at parkytowers.me.uk/thin/Wyse941GXL/index.shtml if you don't know this thinclient....

thx

I don't know the solution for this problem...
But I also got it :) When Tiny Core starts mouse and keyboard works fine for few seconds and then stops.
Only in 4th "edition" TC.

Try 4.4.  It has a newer kernel than 4.0.

ps/2 or ps/2 via USB adapter?
error in dmesg?
it runs in xorg? error in Xorg.0.log?

My story is quite short.
.............................................................................................. Not obligatory to read this :))
I haven't use linux for few years last live distro was Slax.
Now I'm looking for live distribution for HDDless Igel computer (1GHz CPU, 512 RAM)
Puppy linux- no problem with flash install, no Xserver problems with wary and older puppy (very slow flash!)
Browser Linux - to heavy just for browsing problems like puppy (puppy works only in Vesa versions)
Slitaz - great, lite, fast but for my to much bugs... problems with flash, and some upgrade problems
Tiny Core - Lite, problems with flash install - lower version than 4 problems with download the getFlash,
4th version problems with Xserver, mouse and keyboard turn off after few sec

Ok.
I would put first a ps/2 mouse.

Is it a start from the CD or from the USB?
Do you have Xorg loaded at boot? probably not if you are starting. Xvesa?

Perhaps you can post the messages files from slitaz etc. (part keyboard/mouse) here?
Personally, I would have a look at the dmesg, Xorg.0.log.
so, in a terminal write the command dmesg > dmesg.txt (then return)
With a texteditor, open the file dmesg.txt.
Or look at the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or other Xvesa log files).

So, I would try following (for having a look at the log files of your PC with TCL).

Install TCL on an USB stick from another PC, with backup of .xsession you will modify, see below.
See wiki for installing the persistence (=backup).

Put in one of the startscript of TC (http://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/wiki:the_boot_process ; I would try to add at the end of the file /home/tc/.xsession):
===========================
 dmesg > dmesg.txt
 sudo cp dmesg.txt  /mnt/sda1/_the_place_where_you_want_your_dmesgfile.txt
 sudo cp /mnt/sda1/var/log/Xorg.0.log   /mnt/sda1/_the_place_where_you_want_your_logfile.log
===========================

Start/boot your PC with the USB stick on it.
After it booted, takes the USB stick out and put it on another PC and look into your log files (with "fluff" or "leafpad").
Perhaps somebody has a better idea how to look at the log files.
And: Im sure we will get that thing running.
It will perhaps take few weeks.. so: patience. patience. patience.

I think I would extract the log file within 1/2 hour: so, if you are in stuttgart, come other there to do it (with your box; one 2GB USB Stick).
If not,
- install TCL on an USB with persistence (from another PC)
- modify the .xsession
- test on the pc if the log files are accessible with the modified .xsession
This phase should be done quickly.
Then debug your issue on that other PC. It can take some time.
Head up.
