Different version of Xorg
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:33:17 AM »
Hello,

my tinycore installation has Xorg version 1.7.7.
I need to install driver for VAC2000. The are available for:

Xorg 7.1.1
Xorg 1.4.0
Xorg 1.5.2
Xorg 1.6.0

Where may I download one of those packet for tc?

EDIT:

I said I installer xorg 1.7.7 because I read this version in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
But if I try tce-load -wi Xorg-7.5.tcz it says it's already installed...

Which is the actual installed version?

7.5 is the version of the full set (libs, server, apps). 1.7.7 is the version of the server component.

We also have the older 1.6.1 server as part of Xorg-7.4. Remove 7.5 if you want to try with 7.4.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Ok, I installed Xorg-7.4 and as expected the tvia driver didn't raise any error. Now I have my xorg log file without any (EE) item. Anyway I can't start X server. At the very end of the log I find this:

Backtrace:

16: /usr/local/bin/Xorg() [0x806ae01]

What does that mean? How should I investigate to fix the problem?

It would mean that the older Intel driver in 7.4 is buggy on your hardware.

edit: You can still use the vesa or fbdev drivers.

Sgrunt.
It's the second bug I found in two days (the other one on other hw and os, but related to xorg/intel too).

Vesa doesn't work for me. I see a corrupted image on the screen (I can't read anything).
I will try fbdev or I ask an updated driver for my VAC2000 - thus I will use Xorg 7.5

Thanks

Hi Marco Trapanese

It means a program tried to access an illegal memory location.

Thank you for explanation. Now I reinstalled Xorg-7.5 and asked updated drivers to AMP ltd...
