Title: [intel igp] native framebuffer resolution
Post by: tinypoodle on July 26, 2010, 05:20:29 AM
I could imagine the framebuffer is messed up...

Here i have been messing in various ways trying to get a native framebuffer resolution (from 800x600 to 1024x600 on a netbook with a 945GM Intel chipset), to no result.
After having restarted Xvesa several times without any symptoms first, after exiting Xorg console is black with several green rectangles, which change when some readable output is expected. Running apps which rely on framebuffer - e.g. mplayer or links2 - is resulting in rather psychedelic visual effects...
Wondering if there is a way to fix/reset the framebuffer, or even achieve to get plain basic text mode (without framebuffer).

did you try 915resolution or vbetool - or is this not what you're looking for?

I tried both of those, not really sure what exactly to do with vbetool though to fix the messed up console.  ???
If i do:
Code: [Select]
sudo vbetool vgamode
I get a blinking cursor in top left corner, that's all i managed to change, and it falls back to former state when doing "reset".

915resolution works with my "Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller"

915resolution does work fine here to get native resolution in Xvesa but didn't change the framebuffer.

isn't 915resolution meant for intel igps?
