:-\ hello
i was wondering something, so i thought i would ask.
say i run tc from a live cd (cloud). every time i start
to load in, lets say firefox. is there a way i can still
run from a live cd and when i download firefox,
save it on a usb. then when i start tc from live cd,
i just load firefox from usb, instead of downloading
firefox again from the tcz files?
thank you

Sure. From control panel use Set TCE Drive.
Just be sure to use caution in knowing which is your usb drive.

I'm running TC on a Compaq that can't boot from USB and has a dead hard drive. It does boot from CD and can read the extensions and backup file from USB. I use bootcodes waitusb=5 tce=sda1 noswap (I use a very minimal set of extensions).

hello roberts, guy and thaine
thank you.
i will try it today. and give you my results. right now i am waiting for
the broadband carrier to come out and do some adjustments.

Set TCE Drive is not the same as USB Install. USB Install for trying to make a bootable pendrive.
Set TCE Drive, simply creates a TCE and an empty mydata.tgz on a target drive, it can be used when booted into cloud mode without the user having to know how mount or where to make directories and setup for backup.
Booting from CD will indeed require, as user thane has pointed out, a minimum of waitusb=5.
I have even used Set TCE Drive on a unetbootin pendrive. It just make things simple. Still need to add waitusb=5 there as well.

Perhaps waitusb=5 should be included by default on the CD, as it is on USB drives created by usbinstall.
More advanced users installing on hard drives will know when not to include it.
It might avoid a lot of questions.

IIRC it was decided at some point that a default of waitusb=5 would slow down booting too much for non-USB users. Anyway I edit isolinux.cfg [sic?] and burn a CD that has the bootcodes I want.

One of my PCs is PIII/128MB ( not USB bootable BIOS ). Right from the TCv2.4 upto now, I never used this waitsub=5 bootcode.
But still I am able to access my /tce ext folder on this USB pen-drive without any problems ( whether I boot from TC bootable CD or thru HDD grub installation.
I am using Transcend JetFlash TS2GJFV30 ( 2GB) - Made in China model with elite enabled logo.
So I wonder why you guys use this waitsub=5 bootcode ?
Off-cource I never tried to boot from this USB pen-drive or flash-drive whatever it may be !

Very much depends on the usb drive. Some are fast, some are very slow.

Glad I could help!
The box I'm using for TC has the USB ports crowded up against the video connector (maybe they were a design afterthought?) and locally I've only found one brand of USB stick that can fit in. And it definitely needs the waitusb=5 bootcode or I don't get the extensions/backup.

For a few dollars....you can buy an usb extension lead.....which might give you a bigger, faster range of USB sticks to try out?
-
Good idea -- last time I checked the brand I'm using wasn't being sold here anymore. Will do.
