Title: ATA over Ethernet and Vblade for Micro Core
Post by: wightalbert on February 25, 2010, 01:20:50 PM
Is AoE supported in the kernel? If so, is there a aoetools or vblade package available. I am building a large storage system and I would like to use Micro Core. I have used FreeNAS in the past and it works great, the only issue I have is boot speed. Micro core is fast and small, and that's what I need. Anyone?

I noticed in the config-2.6.29.1-tinycore:
# CONFIG_ATA_OVER_ETH is not set

Sounds like you'll need to remaster with a custom kernel. It's not too bad, though. I do it to enable VMI for VMware virtual machines. My script is here (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=677.msg22028#msg22028).

Thanks for the reply and the link to the script. I'll give it a try today and post my results over the weekend. Any advice on the vblade package, I know that I can compile it, but I was hoping that someone else already has.

I'm looking for this same functionality.  So the only way to get ATA over Ethernet working is by remastering?  If anyone has experience with this, please advise.  I don't think editing the config file alone will get you AoE support, as I'm sure other related things will be disabled, but I am not sure.
