Hi,
after 5 hours of trying to get the WLAN working, i finally decided to ask for professional help x)
So, I read the manual on the tinycore page and installed wicd, had some problems to get it on the screen, but managed that too than. My only Problem right now is just, that i dont find any networks with it.
I read something about the fwcutter but didnt know how to install it and didnt find anythink on google.
So i tried the ndiswrapper but i didnt change anything.
What else can i try?
SixT7
EDIT: should that topic be in TCB Q&A? ???

Without knowing details not easy to help. What is the
1) TC version
2) Vendor, model of the machine
3) WiFi hardware (ok, it is redundand, see 2) )
-
1) tinycore_2.8.1
2) Dell Latitude 610
3) Wireless Chip (lspci said): Broadcom Corporataion BCM4318 [AirForcce One 54g] 802.11g
-
I'm not familiar with Broadcom, but most likely driver is missing. Take a look on

Try installing wl.tcz

Try installing wl.tcz
This was offered above :(
-
oh oops, nice. Hope it works for them
-
For the 4318, I needed to use fwcutter to grab the firmware out of the windows driver as describe here: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#device_firmware_installation
-
wl.tcz is installed. Do I have to start it anyhow?
(and how do i install fwcutter?)
-
Last time I checked, the wl driver does not support the 4318, but I may be wrong, I was not able to get it working so I would remove wl.tcz using apps audit. I will build and submit b43-fwcutter in a few minutes, but if you dont want to wait, click the link I gave earlier and scroll down until you see
You are using the b43 driver from linux-2.6.25 or newer
You will need at least compiletc.tcz installed to build it. Whether you build b43-fwcutter yourself or wait until it appears in the repo, you will then need to download the driver and extract the firmware following the directions on that page and then backup the firmware or create an extension of it.
-
i think i can wait, sounds a little easier. ;D
how do i use apps audit? The list is empty :S
-
You have to build dependencies first then the options will light up. Select your extension then mark for deletion.
-
Thanks a lot guys, it works! :D
Im so happy ;D ;D ;D
-
Hey what worked exactly, let us know!
-
Sorry, totally forgot about this.

yesterday i forgot to plug in the power cable so i ran out of battery. I still dont have a Backup so i had to do it again. I thought it would be easy to get the wifi working but now i cant even start wicd.
when i try to start it, it says:
stopped /usr/local/bin/dbus-daemon (pid 5988)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "usr/local/share/wicd/daemon/wicd-daemon.py", line 46, in <module>
import gobject
ImportError: No module named gobject
What could be the problem this time?
I already found out that it is something with a python gtk, but i dont really know how to solve that problem and why i didnt have it last time.
thnx again, SixT7

Most probably you have missing extension(s) due a corruption. Check extensions against md5 and reinstall demaged one. Is your TCE on a FAT/ext2 or a journaling file system, like ext3?
-
1. Is there a command to reinstall packages?
2. what is md5?
3. My tc is not installed yet -> on a CD. is it that what you mean?
thnx for the fast answer :D

After booting TC from CD are you installing WICD with the AppBrowser or it is already available?
-
no, i had to install it with the appbrowser.
-
SixT7:
it is not a problem at your side. Issue is caused by pygobject.tcz extension which was updated ob February 23. It seems to be broken :(
-
awww. thats too bad :C
could you notify me when theres a fixing update? Or does it update automaticly?
-
Previous version of pygobject.tcz was restored in the repository rolling back faulty update made on February 23. Tested, WICD now works again.
-
Now I can start wicd but i don't find any networks :-[
i did exactly the same as before but it doesn't work anymore.. any other 'find wireless networks'-preventing changes?
-
Fn + F2 solved the problem.... ;D
