Title: pppd.tc{e,z}l
Post by: curaga on December 17, 2008, 06:46:03 AM
PPP for dialup and other point-to-point connections posted.

Since apparently no-one in the dev team uses it, it took this long to get one.
PPPoE is also supported by pppd, but there are no friendly conf-scripts included, you'll need to configure pppd for your connection yourself, see
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/basicnet/ppp.html

If anyone knows of a nice PPPoE script and can test it with this, it can be included.

Curaga,
I am working on pppsetup, a script to configure ppp with.  There is one thing I would like in this extension if you wouldn't mind.  Could it be rebuilt with the sysconfdir be in /usr/local/etc as to make it PPI compatible and reduce the need for backed up files across reboots?  That would be great if you could.
Thanks,
JW

It's not a simple configure switch, IIRC it was a hardcoded default. Will try though.

After looking over the ./configure file, --prefix=/usr/local --sysconfdir=/usr/local/etc should work.  It is not mentioned in "./configure --help".

Thanks,
JW

Actually, before uploading a new build let me test this approach a bit as the current pppd is working with standard pppsetup available on the net.  I will get back to you with the results.

Curaga,
pppd can stay as it is.  The config files and paths for them are normally specified in the setup and config files themselves anyway, so they can be placed in either /etc or /usr/local/etc.  Thanks though.
