It's a very lightweight NextSTEP themed Desktop Environment that provides a complete and functional system out of the box. I personally find this to be a perfect balance between the spartan nature of the standard Tinycore WMs and the heaviness of DEs like LXDE or XFCE. It's very themable and has tons of retro charm, too.

Being a DE instead of a single-package WM, Windowmaker is a collection of applications -- such as the window manager, control panel, dock widgets (everything from animated clocks to calculators to spinning cubes and system monitors), etc. So I hope this post doesn't violate the one-thread-per-request rule.
