Title: How to download tcz repository files from Windows (without Linux)?
Post by: AsocialSurvival on August 04, 2018, 06:15:26 PM
I know older repos showed all files, but why are files not available on new versions?

Hi AsocialSurvival
I don't understand the question. The current repo is here:
http://tinycorelinux.net/9.x/x86/tcz/
If you want to retrieve abiword, enter this in your browser:
http://tinycorelinux.net/9.x/x86/tcz/abiword.tcz
When it asks you what you want to do with the file, answer save it. To retrieve the dependency file, enter:
http://tinycorelinux.net/9.x/x86/tcz/abiword.tcz.dep

Are you looking for the file list named info.lst ?
http://tinycorelinux.net/9.x/x86/tcz/info.lst

wow, cool, it can be downloaded, but can i see list of all files on which i can click, like in earlier repo, so i don't have to type file name, and possibly skip some files because i don't know their names? i mean why did you hide file list, but only show it as text, unlike previous versions? what checksums are available? same as earlier? I wanna list like this: http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/6.x/x86/tcz/

And what are .tree and .zsync files?

*tree is the recursive dep file
*zsync allows for downloading only what has changed

I wanna list like this: http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/6.x/x86/tcz/
Then you will have to go to  ibiblio.org  or another mirror that uses that format. The Tinycore repo was changed to a text
format to reduce the load on the servers and provide faster page loads.

Yes.

i mean why did you hide file list ...
Because  info.lst  is not the name of an extension. It is likely used to populate this page:
http://tinycorelinux.net/9.x/x86/tcz/
There is also a compressed version called  info.lst.gz  which is used by the  Apps  utility and the  submitqc  script.

And what are .tree and .zsync files?
The  .tree  file lists all the direct and indirect dependencies of an extension. Look inside one and you'll see.
The  .zsync  file is used to make updates faster by only replacing parts of a file that changed.

Generally you should not be attempting to fetch files or extensions that way. There are tools such as the  Apps  utility
and  tce-load  to not only fetch them, but also handle fetching all their dependencies.

As Rich pointed out, there are mirrors that offer you directory browsing, such as this one : http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/tinycorelinux/

There are others too, listed on this page : http://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/wiki:mirrors

Hope this helps.

..FileZilla , coreFTP , ftpget etc  are good to download TCL repo files selectively marked files  or even whole directory , but  I dont thinks it can dnload a required .tcz files with .dep dependencies , the way AppBrowser does !

Thanks everyone for replying, but luckily i will be able to download using linux as you recommended.
Previously I could not because I use weird internet configuration that would require java, special desktop, and some other apps.
I already tried virtualbox, and linux does not work unlike your previous version, various os-es like android x86 and windows x64 require virtualization in my cpu, which i do not have.
So I found that all os-es work without problems in vmware player without virtualization.
I already tried repository in linux, and works flawlessly.
Vmware Player uses my already configured weird network including proxy from windows xp, it sees it as normal direct connection.
I will downloaded from there, and copy all files to real folder...either by editing one-file disk (avoid multiple-file disks) using ImDisk or similar.
I don't have enough free space to download all, but most important extensions.
Downloading dependencies manually is pain in the ass.
Of course I had to use older vmware player because xp is old, but works even with newest os-es like yours and android 5.1.
