did this method improve any? since i was seeing "pi zero w's--- at 3 dollars (on offer) in the usa.
I believe this TCL version above uses about 70 megs of ram idle?
i wanted also to do the blue ray player OSMC thing for the pi...

It's also interesting (to me) ....... the fact that you can run any win32 or win64 software via DSL & your pi -----by just opening a TCL browser and going to the free Cameyo.com service and installing/executing tools there. (it also has CD quality sound)

The pi-zero(w), even at the $3 price point is the wrong tool for the job you envision.
I can't speak for bmarkus, but I totally understand why these things are left to the user to install manually for the zero and keeps with the TC tradition of only including just what you need - the rest is up to you.
In this case, the zero is targeted primarily at makers / tinkerers / education on how to interface with robotics, controllers and such. In many cases, they don't actually *need* ethernet, wifi, or bluetooth. And if they did, putting those needed files in manually is a non-problem. :)
I'd say that even at a 30-cent pricepoint, the zero is still the wrong tool for multimedia, unless it is just for a one-off goof. Don't get me wrong - I'm stoked at how well picore works as a general purpose desktop with Dillo browser, Aterm with terminus fonts etc, but multimedia or heavy duty websites - yeah, no.
If you are going to do that, pick up the latest if you want to stick to a PI: the Model 3B +. Nice little improvement over the recent 3B. Mine is coming tomorrow, but looks like I'll have to wait a while for the upstream firmware to make it down to a possible new release of PiCore.

i know that for at least 66 percent of my post (specs) the pi zero works perfect.
1) That's a blue ray media centre (OSMC) (check out youtube vids)
2) also for a general mutlimedia computer it works perfect via "omxplayer" and browsers like "lua kit" and "k-web"
So i am not sure what you mean pdp?.
It's quite a powerful desktop computer .....with the right tools.
As for the cameyo thing. i think it would work fine since it's just a HTML5 web page acting
as an RDP (Lua kit or Kweb would do that).....maybe the CD sound over DSL would have issues....but otherwise no.
I have seen pi zero run fully compliant multimedia web browers perfect....for youtube and things like this.

ps...yeah Sir....i think you are referring to PI ZERO just running TCL.....where-as my comments here are more general
........there are infact many many operating systems for the pi zero.....about 50......which demonstrate perfect usability
as a multimedia computer.
i think you may be inferring that WI FI and BLUTOOTH would slow it down or something?.
I don't believe WI FI does that since it's a dedicated chip and i am not sure blutoothe does either.
But never the less you can just use Ethernet DSL via those small 99 cents ETHER to USB dongles off ebay if speed is a
concern.
However all the multimeida PI zero demos' i have seen..... work flawlessly with WI FI.

Must admit that the Zero-w has a better wifi antenna than even the 3b! Zero-w utilizes board-trace antenna, whereas the 3b only uses an antenna in the chip itself.
The new 3B+ uses the enhanced board trace antenna, like the zero-w, so they learned something from the zero-w that was released after the 3B. And the 3B+ is dual-band AC for us 5ghz fans.
Sure enough, I also run other OS like Rasbian, (and Armbian on my non-pi boards), but of course PiCore is my favorite. So familiar with those. And swapfiles, especially on a 512mb Pi-zero trying to run Chromium. :)
I guess what I'm trying to say is that most sub $50 Arm boards when put to the task of multimedia are chasing the performance of the lagging edge / discontinued models of very early Google chromebooks from years ago for example.
It all depends on one's level of comfort I suppose.

sure PDP, yeah
i would not use Chromium on pi zero w........but sure the camey o trick and and browser like "lua kit" etc and then install and run Chromium through cameyo system on their servers (win64) version.
Lua kit and K web are quite extensive and perfect for pi zero w.
The nice thing is Kweb all integrates beautifully on pi zero with Omxplayer etc....and using multimedia etc.

but people DO use Chromium direct on Pi zero without issue. (the vids are on Youtube.)
yeah, WI FI improves as each generation advances. It seems.
