Title: mc quirk ?
Post by: labeas on February 23, 2017, 06:23:09 AM
This http thing has the same BAD action of gmail's lame system:
the thing initiates a SEND when the <Subject:> field is <Entered> !
That's BAD!

That TC doesn't provide mc, although no user would want to crawl when
 he's used to flying, may be due to this little problem:
only after the first mc has been launched does the dir ~/.config/mc/
exist; which stores the user's preferred & chosen setup;
which the user does NOT want to lose between re-boots,
which sould therefore be saved by <shutdown> to be restored
by the next reboot.
But the setup/REinitialising of mc-settings will need to be done
 AFTER the first launching of a mc, if the mc-created ~/.config/mc/
 dir is to be used.
Which seems very unNatural: to launch the 1st mc
 & THEN call the setup-script.
How is it recommended that this problem be handled ?"

After configuring mc, do a backup.  The config file will be reloaded on next boot.
Please read the book at http://tinycorelinux.net/book.html

m chas got many facilities, and custom settings. It's like your friend that learns with you.
So there are Directories of customisable settings; for root & each non-root user.
I've traced 2 [the man is massive] which get saved by Shutdown and restore on the next boot.
A advantage of my TC mc/s is that I've got a good font-size.
I use them mostly in VT-mode via multiple: sudo su ; open vt
 that's why I needed gpm. Since the screen WxH ration is at least twice the 480x640 standard,
from when mc was designed, the little dvtm <screen tiler> will make it possible to see 2 Dirs
and the contents of a text-file on the same sceen. Only wily beats that, but it needs X.
   I've got ETHOberon for linux, which wily/plan9 copied from; which has a less versatile
TILING facility that wily, but is in COLOR/S and runs in a FrameBuffer in one of the VT's.
When you've got a complex problem, it helps to be able to just <wipe & COLORdab> any parts
of the multiple text-files viewable together on the same screen. It's quite small and I'd be
pleased to get it to TC users. It's a complete language & compiler & graphic & ...,
but I prefered it's brother LEO, which can also:
1.DIRECTLY access anywhere in the file tree
2. run your LinuxScripts; eg. System.Execute Lz <-runs my script that shows the ID size of
the most recent files in ARG1.
== Here's an example of wanting to <reach out> and open another text file on this same
screen [NOW writing to the forum] to paste the few lines of `Lz`.
== Thanks for TC.
