hello people

i have this

http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=989.0

on my thinkpad 600

then tried this

http://wiki.tinycorelinux.com/tiki-index.php?page=Display+Modes

with code 888 (sorry, figures are at home, but sure of my hex addition :)) without joy.

i have read this

http://www.tinycorelinux.com/faq.html#framebuffer

but have no network connectivity at the moment, and have saw this

http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=1939.msg10420#msg10420

so am sure it can be done! can anybody step me (debian based user) through this please?

then we can talk about the sound...  :D

apologies, didnt need the 0x0200 offset, read through instructions far too quickly... think its just down to frustration with this particular laptop!

got video working max 1024x768 15bit which is cool!

just to get networking up and tackle this sound!

hello

ok, got distro installed on hd, but 2 issues thus far;

 - using Xfbdev 1024x786 15bit, but x wont start... server fail, needs suid to start (sorry, at work, dont have exact error message)
 - hda1 only has boot and tce dirs... how can i get the os filesystem to live here?

really loving this distro, seems very flexible and look forward to stickin with it!

:D

If by this you mean /etc, /usr and so on, this is meant to exist in ram in tinycore...

If by this you mean /home, /opt, there are boot codes for this - see the wiki

thanks for the reply! sorry about sparse-ness, at work but really cant wait to get back to it...

can sudo startx if i boot into text, but have to have attempted to startx as tc or i get a green screen! just startx as tc returns the initial error, suid must be root (or similar, apologies again)

yep, meant this... so, what about persistent changes to fstab & modprobe.conf for example?

would i be right in saying that i make any changes to my .[config files] in my home, copy to hda1/home and set the boot option all will be good?

Using the panel "backup/restore" button, you can save changes to config files, etc on hda1. The files saved are controled by /opt/.filetool.lst and /opt/.xfiletool.lst - any changes in home are saved by default.

This also might be helpful

I would guess that Xfbdev needs set uid root - maybe a bug/omission?

I just checked Xfbdev.tce and Xfbdev.core.tcz, both from 2.x, both have the suid bit set.

using Xfbdev.tcz, not 'core.tcz'... would this make a difference? and if so, where can i download? also, should i try .tce?

thanks again
