Hello forum,
My priner is a multifunction HP envy 4500.
I've installed hplip 3.13.11 and ink levels, printer info and the other hp- function work perfectly.
Now the problem is that I'm able to print on libreoffice only.
With any other program I open to print a document, included firefox, I get two options only:
print to a file
print to LPR
any clue?
thank you

I'm guessing you're speaking of gtk2 apps - it looks like the cups print backend is missing.
You could try sending a pm to the maintainer.
-
Cups is installed an boot-loaded.
I can print the testpage via hplip commands.
I can print in libreoffice, but nothing more.
I attached two screenshots that show the problem
-
As stated, the problem is with gtk2, not cups
-
Ok,
so what can I do?
-
Did you pm the gtk2 maintainer?
In the meantime you could use gtk3 apps?
-
Did you pm the gtk2 maintainer?
not yet, whom should I send a message to?
I've no problem using GTK3 applications.
Could you give me the name of some of them?
I actually use:
firefox
beaver
xfe
I could test some of those GTK3 and check their functionality.

see:

gedit, epiphany, rhythmbox - you can use the apps gui and search tags for "gtk3" to get a full list.
-
I'm going to write to gtk.org soon.
In my notebook I've mint mate installed, do you think should I test some gtk2 app in that distro to see if it works properly there before writing to gtk org?
I'll try gedit and nautilus.
My actual window manager is openbox. If I install the gnome desktop to get gtk3 apps working, wouldn't I mess things up?
thank you
-
It's not gtk.org you need to send a private message to, but the extension maintainer bmarkus.
The gnome desktop is only available in corepure64 - you need to load gnome-session (be sure to read the info file) to get this.
BTW - gtk3 apps should work with any window manager
-
I'm doing a lot of tries to get a TC system suited to my needs.
It's nice to have an OS that can be booted from several machines like TC does.
Well done!
I hope I can contribute to improve TC with my posts.
Having said this, I'll write to bmarkus to report this strange behaviour.
By the way, is the info file the text message in the Apps GUI showing amongst the other things the maintainor of the package or the pakage version?
thank you

Message to bmarkus sent.
The GTK3 apps have not this problem. I can see my printer from there.
